Selfish Sewing

This time of year we are all a little crazy with sewing for others. I’m usually getting up early to sneak in some sewing before work and then staying up late to get some more done. But even with my mind on sewing gifts I can’t help but want to do a bit of “selfish sewing” too. Here are the top 5 things on my selfish sewing list:

#1
Grainline Studio’s Linden Sweatshirt

I’ve been so excited for this new Grainline Studio pattern! I’ve yet to meet a Grainline pattern I didn’t LOVE (8 scout tees and counting). I think this graphic print will work really well!

Lisette Continental Blouse

in Robert Kaufman’s House of Whales Plaid

Since moving to Northern California I’ve been needing more “wintery” me mades. I think this long sleeved blouse would be so great in this navy plaid. I love the gathered yoke detail in the back.

#3
New Look Cape

I’m really torn on what fabric for this! I have two ideas and really really love both.

Option 1: Robert Kaufman Chamonix Cotton Molskin in Navy and Tan (pretty similar combo to the pattern cover)

Option 2: Ann Kelle’s Remix Dots in Laminate and line it with Michael Miller’s Organic Sherpa. This combo would be so fun and cozy for the rain! Maybe even draft a little hood to add on?

Which combo would do you like best for this pattern???

Sewaholic Alma Blouse

in Monaluna’s Free Range Foxy with a Clementine Shot Cotton collar

I’ve actually had this combo cut out and ready to sew for close to a year! Anyone else neglect projects like this? I really need to sew it up because this blouse is perfect for layering, the peter pan collar is so cute poking out of a sweater. I’ve made this blouse before in an adorbs Japanese double gauze and wear it A LOT

Now that I’ve shown you mine….

Whats on your selfish sewing list?

  1. Oooh lovely picks! I have not yet delved into the world of garment-making, but I want to make myself at least one pregnancy-friendly top before QuiltCon in late February. I haven’t found a pattern yet—any suggestions? I’ll be about 5 months pregnant with my third babe, so aka pretty rotund! Other than garments, my selfish sewing list consists of another big bag (pattern yet to be chosen), a Sew Together Bag, and my quilt. I’ve begun a quilt just.for.me. but of course it always ends up on the back burner!

Wow, Liz! You’ve got some fabulous sewing planned. I’m jealous of your awesome skills.

I’d probably go with the navy and brown for the cape– with a hood and a fun, unexpected lining. I would LOVE that. And the long tunic– I think that’s something I could tackle successfully, in less of, course, you’re coming down to LA to teach a class. (Hint, hint.)

Hope you’re setting into your new digs and loving it up there. We miss you.

  3. That poncho is incredible; I would definitely go with the navy and tan!
